Madilynn has a milk allergy :( :( :(
What this means for her breastfeeding mommy... no milk in my diet.
I went off dairy for about a week to see if there was a difference in her poop (yes I said poop... welcome to my new life), spit up, sleep, congestion, etc. Sure enough every day got a little better. To see if it really was the dairy, I spend 24 hours back on milk products. Boy did Madi pay the price for that one. It was awful. About 24 hours after my first milk consumption, the belly aches started. Her face turns bright red, she scrunches her knees in and has a very distinct my belly hurts cry. It was so hard to see her in so much pain. Not to mention neither of us getting any sleep for 48 hours. The bright side, we know its the dairy and can therefore do something about it. The downside, I love cheese and ice cream.
If anyone has suggestions of foods that have a milk protein substitute I am all ears. Keep in mind, I need to eat light on the soy as well as she has a slight reaction to that as well. In the end, her feeling her best is worth never having ice cream again.

shooot. i just had a paragraph of suggestions and i lost it. here goes again:
ReplyDeletei might've told you some of these, but here they are again:
for ice cream, coffee creamer and yogurt, so delcious brand is great. i could only find the dairy & soy free ice cream at whole foods. stop & shop has just the dairy free.

earth balance has a good soy-free, dairy-free butter substitute. again, i could only find this one at whole foods, though they have just the dairy free at stop & shop.

whole foods has a dairy & soy free cheeze shreds. it's a little weird, but if you really have a craving for pizza or a calzone it kind of hits the spot :)

amy's also has a frozen mac & cheese that is dairy & soy free. it's pretty good for a easy microwavable lunch. i'm pretty sure i got this both at stop & shop and whole foods.
trader joe's whole wheat bread (it's just a plain bread, none of their fancy stuff) is one of the oly breads i found without soy.
trader joe's reduced guilt brownies are dairy & (i think) soy free if you make them with applesauce. they are surprisingly very good and give you a nice taste of chocolate.
those are the things that helped it not feel so hard, good luck! i know its rough, but obviously worht it.
